What’s New STATEMENT Protecting the Data of U.S. Statistical Agencies In a statement, the presidents of the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Medicine urge federal leaders to respect and safeguard the integrity and objectivity of federal statistical agencies and the information they produce, which is vital to public policy and essential to the nation’s economic well-being. ANNOUNCEMENT National Academies Announce New Fast-Track Study A new study will review the latest scientific evidence on whether greenhouse gas emissions are reasonably anticipated to endanger public health and welfare in the U.S., with a focus on evidence gathered by the scientific community since 2009. SPOTLIGHT A Legacy of Research on the Health Effects of Atomic Bombings Eighty years ago, the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Radiation Effects Research Foundation, a U.S.-Japan cooperative research institute originally established under the National Academy of Sciences, continues to study the radiation effects of the bombings on the health of survivors and their children. ANNOUNCEMENT National Academy of Medicine Names NAM Fellows for 2025 The National Academy of Medicine has selected its 2025 class of NAM Fellows. During the two-year fellowship, these six outstanding health professionals will engage in the National Academies’ health and science policy work and collaborate with eminent researchers, policy experts, and clinicians from across the country.
