1) President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will this afternoon deliver the first fifth term State of the Nation (SOTN) address. The address will be delivered before Members of Parliament (MPs) at the Kampala Serena Hotel Conference Center.
2) President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrives in Uganda today for an official visit, the first stop of his East African tour that will also take him to Kenya. This is the first time a Turkish president has visited the East African countries. According to a statement released by the Turkish presidency, the president will meet with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on June 1 and will preside over inter-committee meetings.

3) The Trial Chamber IX of the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) has set December 6 as the start date for Dominic Ongwen's trial. On that day, the Chamber decided that it will only hear opening statements on 6 December 2016. On 23 March 2016, Pre-Trial Chamber II confirmed the 70 charges brought by the Prosecutor against Dominic Ongwen, as alleged former Commander in the Sinia Brigade of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), and committed him to trial.
4) Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court will today sentence city lawyer Bob Kasango, who was recently convicted of stealing more than UGX3 billion. The money in question belonged to Tooro Queen Mother Best Kemigisa who entrusted Mr Kasogo with the duty of receiving it from the Lands Ministry Permanent Secretary on her behalf.
5) Construction of the largest dam in the world could soon start in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Guardian reports. The Inga 3 is set to span one part of the Congo river and could be producing electricity within five years. The report does not give a date for the beginning of construction but says that plans are being "fast-tracked" by the government. The dam is set to be built in several phases, but upon completion, it's projected to provide 40% of the continent's electricity.
