Bobi Wine: The Musical Rebel Shaking Up Ugandan Politics

Bobi Wine: The Musical Rebel Shaking Up Ugandan Politics

Bobi Wine is not your typical musician. He is a man on a mission - a mission to use his music and voice to bring about change in Uganda. With his blend of afrobeat, reggae, and dancehall music, he has become one of Uganda's most popular and influential musicians, as well as a political force to be reckoned with.

Born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in 1982 in the Kamwokya slums of Kampala, Uganda, Bobi Wine grew up in poverty, but his talent and determination helped him rise above his circumstances. He began his music career in the early 2000s, and quickly gained popularity with his socially conscious lyrics and catchy beats.

But it wasn't until he entered politics in 2017 that Bobi Wine truly became a household name in Uganda. He ran for a seat in parliament as an independent candidate, and his message of hope and change resonated with young people and marginalized communities across the country. Despite facing intense opposition from the ruling party, he won the election by a landslide.

Since then, Bobi Wine has used his platform as a musician and politician to advocate for human rights, democracy, and social justice in Uganda. He has been a vocal critic of President Yoweri Museveni's government, and has been at the forefront of the fight against corruption, police brutality, and political repression in the country.

But his activism has come at a price. Bobi Wine has been arrested, beaten, and harassed by the police and government officials, and has faced numerous challenges in his political and musical career. But he remains undaunted, and continues to speak out against injustice and oppression in Uganda.

Bobi Wine's music and activism have earned him a legion of fans and supporters, both in Uganda and around the world. His message of hope and empowerment has inspired a generation of young people to stand up for their rights and demand change in their communities. And his courage and resilience in the face of adversity have made him a symbol of hope and resistance for many.

As Bobi Wine continues to shake up Ugandan politics and music with his rebellious spirit and infectious beats, it is clear that he is not just a musician - he is a revolutionary, a trailblazer, and a leader of his people.

BOBI WINE ON MR. OWINY DOLLO'S UNFORTUNATE, TRIBALISTIC REMARKS

ON MR. OWINY DOLLO'S UNFORTUNATE, TRIBALISTIC REMARKS
I watched the Chief Justice of Uganda, Mr. Owiny Dollo referring to the people of Buganda as 'wicked lumpens' with shock. He did not stop there but went ahead to contemptuously attack the King of Buganda as an "ethnic leader," and warn that the region cannot produce a leader that will appeal to the rest of the country!
Mr. Owiny Dollo's comments, triggered by a protest by some Ugandans in the diaspora against the expenditure of nearly UGX 2 Billion to fly the late Speaker abroad for treatment yet the regime has done very little to improve healthcare facilities back in Uganda, are unfortunate and must be condemned by all citizens no matter their tribe. Only he can tell us what criteria he used to conclude that the protesters were all Baganda!
By his own admission, Mr. Owiny Dollo has spent no more than two years outside the central region since he came as a 16-year-old. He was welcomed by the region without discrimination, studied from the central region, and has served his entire judicial career from the central region. It was therefore improper and unfortunate of him to fan tribal divisions pitting the central region against the rest of the country.
Being the head of our judicial system, Mr. Owiny Dollo ought to have known better than to collectively denigrate an entire community based on the actions of a few individuals who were neither sent by nor speak for the community called Buganda. What justice, now, should the members of that community who seek relief from the Courts of law headed by him expect?
That is why I hesitate to comment much on his allegations about the National Unity Platform's involvement in the demonstration because we all remember the sheer partiality and bias with which Mr. Dollo as head of the Supreme Court handled our presidential election petition against his former client and appointing authority, dictator Museveni.
This very Chief Justice was accused of hiding the file of another Supreme Court Justice, Dr. Esther Kisaakye Mayambala! One wonders how Mr. Dollo would handle another petition filed by a Muganda presidential election petitioner, after he himself said that Buganda cannot produce a national leader acceptable to the rest of the country. What a tragedy to this nation!
What is curious is that Mr. Dollo made those remarks in the middle of a raging debate about the cause of death of the late Speaker of Parliament! By choosing to fan tribal sentiments, the Chief Justice was effectively diverting the country away from a conversation that was meant to establish the actual cause of death of the same person Mr. Dollo claims to have been a very good friend and tribesmate of. What his motive was in doing this, your guess is as good as mine.
Parliament itself which could have intervened earlier in time to save the late Speaker's life dedicated its time and resources, instead, to persecuting and hounding Hon. Zaake out of office. Once that mission was accomplished, its leaders suddenly remembered to check on the late Speaker in hospital — if only they weren't too late!
So, for the Chief Justice to suggest that 'wicked' Baganda contributed to the Speaker's death is most unfortunate.
If Mr. Owiny Dollo had any decency left in him, the moral thing for him to do would be to apologise to the nation, as well as to His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda, whom he lied about and accused of flying in a presidential jet!
Once again, I call upon all Ugandans to continue pursuing national unity as the precursor to sustainable peace and progress for our nation.
The people of Acholi and the people of Buganda have enjoyed a brotherly relationship that was sealed very many years ago by Kabaka Mutesa II and his best friend Daudi Ocheng.
Museveni continues to use the likes of Dollo to destroy that relationship but he will not succeed.
We continue to extend our condolences to the family of Right Honourable Jacob Oulanyah, the entire Acholi community as well as all the people of Uganda on this loss.

Umeme warns of countrywide load shedding Tomorrow When Bobi Wine is Nominating as Presidential Candidate

Umeme Limited, Uganda warns of countrywide load shedding Tomorrow When @Bobi Wine is Nominating as Presidential Candidate

Umeme has warned of possible interruption to power supply after another floating island was spotted not far from Nalubaale dam.

A couple of months back, Uganda experienced a nationwide black out after floating Islands interrupted supply at the 180 MW Nalubaale dam.

The situation led to the intervention by Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), Ministry of Agriculture and Uganda National Roads Authority who assembled equipment such as ferries, dump trucks and bull dozer, to clear the water weeds.

The floating islands’ situation was a wakeup call for the need for research into hydropower systems to ensure anticipatory as opposed to reactionary solutions.

The machines which were provided by the government to eliminate floating islands included, three long arm excavators, two barges, one ferry, one hydraulic crane, three self-loading trucks, four dump trucks (20 ton) and one bulldozer.

However through it’s social media platforms, Umeme advised the public to charge their devices because any time the country could experience load shedding.

“We have received information about a floating island which is likely to affect our services. We shall however do our best to maintain uninterrupted service as much as duly possible,”Umeme noted.

The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) had put out an emergency load shedding plan of 100 megawatts in case the country loses more power generation.

This means UETCL has planned to knock off 100 megawatts of power demand in case it (power demand) exceeds supply.

For instance, if generation can only supply 500 megawatts but there is demand of 600 megawatts, UETCL would knock off 100 megawatts and ration the 500 megawatts among all the customers.

The government has told Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to back off from his plans of repatriating Ugandans stuck in China.

The government has told Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to back off from his plans of repatriating Ugandans stuck in China.
In a letter dated April 15 and addressed to Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Bobi Wine, said he has partnered with an American media owner and businessman Neil Nelson to evacuate 285 Ugandans and other black Africans currently stuck in China.
Africans in China have come under coronavirus discrimination and attack with some of them evicted from their houses and hotels while others are denied entrance into restaurants and supermarkets. They have been accused of bringing coronavirus to China where the first reported COVID-19 cases were recorded in December 2019.
Following the coronavirus outbreak, Uganda closed its airport in March for all inbound and outbound travellers. Ugandans stuck in China have appealed to the government to be returned back home.
Bobi Wine in his letter to Rugunda, asked the government to allow the Ugandans into the country, saying they have secured a privately chartered Quantum Jet Airbus A330-200. Bobi Wine further said the returnees would be taken care of by him and Nelson while in quarantine.
In response, however, the government has however asked Bobi Wine, to leave foreign affairs matters to President Yoweri Museveni. Minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem questioned how Bobi Wine would meet the quarantine costs. Oryem also wondered if Bobi Wine will also transport Ugandans stuck in other parts of the world.
The minister says the responsibility of protecting the Ugandans abroad, lies with the head of state.
“If any Ugandan succeeds and achieves, it’s the responsibility of the president of Uganda, if any Uganda dies abroad, this is also the responsibility of the president of Uganda. Does he have the capacity to be held responsible for all of this, no? This is a foreign policy issue that you do not just wake up to do” Oryem said on phone.
According to Oryem, the government is currently registering Ugandans abroad; in America, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.
Joel Ssenyonyi the spokesperson People Power says that Bobi Wine and his partners will cater for all of the costs, including quarantine and feeding. He says the government should not ignore its citizens suffering abroad.
"The honourable Kyagulanyi together with a couple of other friends will bring people in and meet their entire cost - quarantine and everything. To say that this is cheap popularity, I think is madness for any government to ignore its people suffering in any country, and then someone decides to help and they say it is cheap popularity. Okay, if it is cheap popularity, let then be the ones to bring these Ugandans back. That is what we have been saying, that is what these Ugandans have been saying. We would have reached out to people with the means to do this, we shouldn’t be the ones doing this but government has ignored them and said you suffer,"
Betty Aol Ocan, the Leader of Opposition says that Bobi Wine's offer is based on humanitarian grounds and not for politics.

Having shown his goodwill a few weeks ago when he participated in fundraising for Carol Atuhirwe who has successfully gone for treatment in India, Bobi Wine showed his kind heart once again when he called on people to help save Muwonge a child who is battling a heart disease.

The doctors at Mulago Heart Institute say it will cost about 20million,‘ the ghetto president said before going on to add, ‘His mother Nakate Hasfa came and asked me to help her reach out to good Samaritans to help fundraise to save his life. Stella Nyanzi Is Depressed But Bobi Wine’s Advice Is Hilarious!

Stella Nyanzi Is Depressed But Bobi Wine’s Advice Is Hilarious!

It’s no secret that Makerere University researcher, DR Stella Nyanzi is a strong lady. But like any other human, she too experiences low moments.
And ever since she was suspended from her workplace, she appears to be going through this time – as recently expressed in a post on social media.
“Yesterday, I was very low and lonely. I needed company. I wanted someone to talk with; someone to tell me that it is going to be okay. I went through the contacts in my phone-book. Up and down, down and up, I went through the contacts. Everyone in there is a friend of sorts but not the sort of friend I can call just to chat. My only close friends are my mother’s children – who work hard at their jobs during the day, thus have no time for idle talk.

“And then I missed my mother and father dearly. It never mattered what the time of day or night it was, I could call them and talk for hours on end about this and that and the other. Death is horrible. Sometimes all that one needs is another human being to talk with about nothing in particular. If you have friends that you holler and chat with when anxious or unsettled or lonely, do not take these friends for granted. It is a rare and special gift which must be cherished.”
Some people recommended her to listen to Bob songs while others advised her to watch some movies but Bobi Wine’s advice caught our attention most.
The ‘Kampala Si Kibuga Kyabafala’ hitmaker advised Nyanzi to smoke weed then think things out!
“Dear sister, Meditation is the only medication to such emotions. Sit alone and light a ‪#‎joint‬ or two, then think things out. The solution is right within you. You’re stronger than you can imagine and nobody is gonna evoke that strength out of you but you. If bad emotions persist, light third joint to complete the trinity. I guarantee you will step over whatever.”
What do you think of Bobi Wine’s trinity?
