Dr. Sam Nujoma celebrates 91st birthday

Dr. Sam Nujoma celebrates 91st birthday

Namibia’s Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, is celebrating his 91st today. President Hage Geingob congratulated Dr. Nujoma and hailed his leadership in the liberation struggle and also for his statesmanship and national reconciliation of the post-independence fledgling Namibian nation.

“As we join President Nujoma and his family in celebrating this special day, we also pause to reflect on his uncompromising leadership during and after the liberation struggle for Namibia’s independence. President Nujoma led the armed struggle during difficult times.
Despite this, the leadership of Swapo mobilised resources for military activities, political and diplomatic wings as well as for the education of Namibians in exile. This prepared Namibians to take over the running of the affairs of the country upon independence”, explained Dr. Geingob in his official address congratulating Dr. Nujoma on his 91st birthday. Adding the leadership of Swapo today benefits from the leadership, wisdom and mentorship of Dr. Nujoma during the liberation struggle and after independence.

The policy of National Reconciliation adopted by Dr. Nujoma during his Presidency contributed greatly to uniting the people of Namibia, further states President Geingob.
Every year on 12 May Namibians come together to celebrate Dr. Nujoma’s birthday. This year the situation is different as the country remains galvanised in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Yet, the nation’s ability to overcome the challenges of Covid-19 lies in the qualities shown by Dr. Nujoma as a leader.
“The best gift we can give President Nujoma on this day is to emulate his leadership and perseverance by being leaders in our own rights, leading the way in the fight to stop the spread of this deadly virus in our country”, concluded Dr. Geingob his statement.
President Nujoma is wished continued health and a happy 91st birthday.
