The meeting, to be held on the theme of "Year of Women Empowerment and
Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063," will focus on continental
complementarity, migration and fight against hatred and violence.
Participants will also discuss extremism, terrorism, good governance, elections and illegal financial flows.
The Summit will also focus on conflicts in Africa, particularly in Burundi and Libya and the fight against terrorist group "Boko Haram."
President Yoweri Museveni has arrived in SouthAfrica for 25th AUSummit. The President will be among over 50 African leaders meeting at Sandton Convention Center, Johannesburg to discuss the continent’s growth prospects. President Museveni has been at the forefront in championing peace and political stability in the horn of Africa, particularly Somalia, South Sudan and now Burundi for sustained economic growth. The Heads of State and Government will adopt the budget of the AU, consider the report of the ministerial retreat on the first ten year implementation plan of Agenda 2063, consider the report of the ad hoc ministerial committee on the scale of assessment, and discuss the issue of integration with a focus on free movement of people, goods and services. The summit will be addressed by South African president Jacob Zuma, AU boss Robert Mugabe and Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine and Chairman of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee among others.South Africa is hosting the Summit after Chad withdrew due to financial constraints.
