Kings Don't Sue, Judge Tells King Oyo

The High Court in Fort Portal has dismissed a petition in which the Omukama of Toro Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV sought to block the coronation of a rival prince.
On Monday, King Oyo, 23, filed the petition accusing Prince David Kijanangoma of disturbing him in his kingdom by organising his own coronation yet he is not the legitimate king of Toro. King Oyo wanted the court to stop the December 23, 2015 coronation.
However, in his ruling, High Court judge David Batema dismissed the petition on account that it is wrong for the king to sue.
“Oyo is the recognised King of Tooro and is not supposed to sue. It’s the institution of Tooro Kingdom that would have sued or dragged Kijanangoma to court,” the judge ruled.
Kijanangoma, a cousin to King Oyo, says he will go ahead with his planned coronation. He accuses the youthful king of abdicating the throne and living in Kampala.
The kingdom's next move in the wake of the developments is unknown.
