President Yoweri Museveni has today been awarded with Uganda’s highest military award. Gen Museveni No.001 was decorated with the ‘Order of Katonga’ military medal by Chief Justice Bart Katureebe in Buikwe where Heroes Day celebrations are taking place. In October, 2014, Museveni awarded himself “Order of The Commander-in-Chief” medal during Police’s centenary celebrations at Kololo airstrip. Mr Museveni received the highest medal while Gen Aronda Nyakairima, Gen Kale Kayihura and the late Erinayo Oryema received The Exemplary Service Class One Medal. This at the celebrations to mark heros day today.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has posthumously awarded the late Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi the “Order of Katonga”. The president made the proclamation on Thursday during celebrations to mark Heroes Day in Buikwe district. Museveni decorated first decorated Gaddafi with the same medal on 6 April 2004 in Tripoli, honouring him for his contribution to the National Resistance Army (NRA) bush struggle that liberated Uganda from dictatorship, adding that Colonel Gaddaffi has always been at the forefront of the liberation of Africa and unification of the continent. Museveni also posthumously awarded former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere in July 2007 at his hometown of Butiama for his assistance in liberating Africa from colonialism in general and Uganda from Idi Amin’s rule in particular via the Uganda–Tanzania War. His wife Maria received the award on his behalf.
