Police have arrested Julius Moses Katende, 18, who is alleged to have connived with Herbert Were to mutilating his 8-year old brother, Joel Ogema.
Detectives arrested Katende at Galiraya village, Kayunga District, where he has been hiding.
He is currently detained at Special Investigations Division (SID), Kireka on homicide related offences.
Katende, a resident of Kijabijjo, Gayaza in Wakiso District, is said to have created a Facebook account in the name of Jeff Kiwa, which he used to dupe unsuspecting victims that he would recruit them in a cult that enables them get rich fast.
Police spokesman, Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga, said Katende had made an admission to have contacted Were.
“The suspect defrauded unsuspecting members by collecting money from them on the pretext of obtaining a code that they will use register them in the illuminati group,” Commissioner Enanga said.
He said the police recovered materials the suspect uses while committing the offences.
The suspect told police that he would raise between Sh200,000 and Sh300,000 from his victims a week.
Commissioner Enanga said the suspect told police that he brainwashed Were into sacrificing his young brother for the purpose of acquiring wealth, a task he thought his victim would fail to perform. But Were carried it out at Lumino village, Busia District.
Police have warned the public against the dangers of internet and mobile phones, which are effective tools used by fraudsters to brainwash and dupe teenagers.
