Several suspects arrested after information was received on smash and grab and armed robbery incidents in the Nyanga area.

Western Cape: Tireless efforts by detectives to deal with suspects who commit armed robbery and smash and grabs in the Nyanga precinct yielded positive results.
Early yesterday, Thursday 04 January 2017, detectives attached to the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit conducted an operation by following up on leads on suspects who have been terrorising motorists travelling on routes into and out of Nyanga. Four suspects were arrested while they were sitting in a shack in Zwelitsha, where police recovered presumably stolen cell phones and several batteries, a flat screen, a camera and a variety of other items. When asked about their ownership of these items, the suspects could not explain where they had obtained the property.
While members were performing the arrests, they received further information about a suspect who had stabbed and fatally wounded a youngster in Philippi East on Monday. This 17-year-old was also arrested.
The questioning of the four suspects led to the arrest of two more suspects, one of whom is aged 31, for being positively linked to two armed robbery and attempted murder cases where a medical doctor was shot and injured while driving on the corners of Miller and Eisleben Roads, between Nyanga and Crossroads. The second suspect is also linked to two other smash and grab and armed robbery incidents.
All the suspects, aged between 17 and 31, are expected to appear in court facing charges related to armed robbery, smash and grab, attempted murder and possession of stolen property. The 17-year-old was arrested for murder.
Meanwhile seven other suspects were also arrested on Tuesday 2018-01-02: three suspects aged 20, 27 and 33 for armed robbery, two suspects aged 30 and 33 for rape, and three suspects aged 27, 33 and 42 for the possession of stolen property and a 29 year old for murder. Some suspects appeared in the Wynberg and Philippi Magistrate’s Courts today for rape, armed robbery and the possession of stolen property.
The Western Cape SAPS management thanked the detectives for their commitment in bringing the perpetrators to book.
