KEY ISSUES FROM PRESIDENT MUSEVENI'S SPEECH ABOUT THE LOCKDOWN

KEY ISSUES FROM PRESIDENT MUSEVENI'S SPEECH ABOUT THE LOCKDOWN
Its now 75 days since the lock down started. 457 cases of infected in Uganda 332 of these are truck drivers from neighboring countries. 72 successfully treated and healed with no death.

BEDS
2000 beds dedicated to COVID-19, if we are to assume a bad situation we can make up to 40 000. It not bad to plan for the worse. If we plan for the worse it doesnt mean we are cowards "okwekengera si butitiizi"
Goodwork done by our doctors. We have 4372 in government and private hospitals abali wano, not those who are outside the country, abo sibabala because they went outside to treat others. Am counting those ones here.
FOOD
We shall continue giving food, some people were thinking we stopped no we are still. We finished phase one and we shall continue in wakiso. Even in kampala we can still, remember this food is meant for lejjalejja people. Those that if you dont work you dont get. This food is for those people. We have given food to 1.8 m people. We warn some people to stop telling lies about things coming from the govt, if you got food dont say i ddnt get. stop misinforming people.
BUSES, TRAIN & TAXI
4th june resumption of buses, passenger train, taxi with 50% of passengers allowed. One conductor allowed who will sanitise and disinfect, and of course the driver. All must wear masks.
SHOPPING MALLS
From 4th June, shopping malls allowed to open if they observe social distancing
MASKS
Masks to be ready on the10 not the 4th. We shall start with the border districts. We shall go sub county to sub county, if you have not got the right mask stay at home. i have been here for most of the 75 days of the lockdown, i dont go anywhere, you can do that also.
ARRESTS
4000 people have been arrested since the lockdown. I have discussed with attorney general and DPP; if they find nothing serious they should release them.
SCHOOLS
Opening of schools postponed for another 1 month but distance learning through radio and TV encouraged. We are thinking through the PM and tech teams to see how to solve distance learning. I had an idea of giving two television sets per village where children can watch. But some are saying if you do that people can congregate. but am saying if childreniving in one village had the virus we would have known already. So i dont think there is a problem.
About the radios: radios are simpler, we can give each house a radio, but the problem with radio is that you can hear but you cant see. So we should think about this and see how we can do it.
BODA BODAS & TUK TUK
Boda boda and Tuk tuks not allowed to carry passengers. They are not an effecient means of transport. its like to having supper with akajiko ka sukali. You will keep on taking more spoons and not finish. So even boda bodas keep on making many trips and overcrwod the city. This was bad enough even before the virus. We were keeping quite before but with the virusits a no.
This tea spoon you keep on adding and adding, the banya kole say you will end up swallowing wind when everything is finished. I have even been told the boda bodas belong to the rich people, so the rich want to put the poor at risk. So for the boda bodas the best they can do is to keep quite and wait for the disease to go.
CHURCHES AND MOSQUES
Churches and mosques to remain closed. We had in South Korea where all peole got infected. This priest who got involved will not qualify for heaven, Even me i would have arrested him
