“Take Our Gold and Copper, Build Fuel and Grain Warehouses on the Red Sea, and Turn Sudan into Russia’s Gateway to Africa,” Sudan’s Military Chief Tells Putin in Russia.

Sudan’s al-Burhan Offers Russia Gold, Copper Mines, and a Red Sea Free Zone During Moscow Talks with Putin In a bilateral meeting in Moscow on the sidelines of the third Russia-Africa Summit, Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan proposed major economic cooperation with Russia. This includes investments in mineral extraction and a strategic free economic zone on the Red Sea. Speaking to President Vladimir Putin, al-Burhan said Sudan is ready to transfer plots for gold, copper, and other metals, with some sites already prepared. He stressed joint implementation and noted existing Russian involvement in Sudanese mining. He also offered a free economic zone on the Red Sea coast for Russia to build fuel and wheat storage facilities. Putin welcomed the proposals, thanked al-Burhan for attending, and called Sudan an important partner for Moscow in the Arab world and Africa. In conclusion, this does not look like a great idea and would not have happened if African leaders had listened to Kwame Nkrumah.
