Lockdown extended to 4 May
Namibia’s lockdown has now been extended to 4 May and all movement throughout the country will now also be curtailed, President Hage Geingob announced. The country will open on 5 May.
In a televised address from State House President Geingob said although there was no new confirmed Coronavirus cases in the past week, the health of Namibians remain top priority, the protection of the health system remains priority as well as the protection of the country’s economy.
“The measures we have put in place bear fruit. The current lockdown that lapses at midnight on Friday, 17 April will now be extended to midnight, 4 May. In addition all movement in the country will be curtailed”, the President is quoted.
According to the President Namibia’s Coronavirus cases remain at 16, with three people that made full recoveries. The President did not repeat earlier claims by the health ministry that the remaining thirteen cases are now classified as “a-symptomatic”.
