WHY DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY OWN THE COUTRY?
A few years ago, Busabala was our quiet neighbourhood where we lived in love and harmony. When the Entebbe express highway was proposed, powerful and well connected individuals in government rushed there and bought off most of the land from the poor inhabitants.
Since then, the story of Busabala has changed. On a weekly basis, I receive calls from the residents of Busabala complaining about the torture and suffering they have to endured under the powerful and mighty. Many have been dispossessed of their land (including myself), others are brutalised daily, and others regularly arrested.
An old friend of mine has spent several months in prison because he was found passing in the land of a minister in Busabala, and charged with trespass!
When this video of Hon. Thomas Tayebwa (MP Ruhinda North) came out, the same people called me and told me that a lot more happens away from the camera. The locals are beaten and molested daily by these people. The man who called me spoke in Luganda, "Honorable tuyambe, bananyini nsi batutigomya. Tetukyeebaka." The words of this man disturbed me so much.
