" Nothing, Completely Nothing will stop me from Being on the Ballot " - says Bobi Wine

BOBI WINES SAYS

" This morning, my attention was drawn to an alteration in my information on the website of Parliament. My year of birth was altered from 1982 to 1980 without my knowledge. I immediately called the IT department of Parliament and they claimed not to know who made that change. I have tasked them to explain that and will be speaking to the Director soon. In the meantime, they rectified the anomaly immediately.

My assurance to all of you friends is that there is no cause for alarm with regard to all my records - whether academic or otherwise. I will soon address all of you about the specifics. In the meantime, treat these as the usual desperate attempts by the regime to block, embarrass or detract its opponents. Unfortunately, at every interval, they have always easily found some tools to use in these shameful manoeuvres. They have done worse things and they will do more, but NOTHING, COMPLETELY NOTHING will stop our revolution.

WHO IS SALIM SALEH ???

Salim Saleh (born Caleb Akandwanaho, 14 January 1960) is a retired Ugandan military officer who has served in the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF), the armed forces of Uganda. He is a brother to the current President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, and an adviser to the President on military matters. He served as Minister of State for microfinance from 2006 to 2008. Saleh has featured in controversies regarding corruption, including being implicated by the UN Security Council for plundering natural resources in Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In 1976, aged 16, he left Kako Secondary School in Masaka to join the Front for National Salvation (FRONASA), a Tanzania-based rebel group formed and led by his brother Yoweri Museveni to fight against the regime of Idi Amin. Together with his friend Fred Rwigyema and his brother Museveni, he trained in Mozambique with Samora Machel's FRELIMO rebels. It was there that he adopted Salim Saleh[1] as his nom de guerre. In 1978, FRONASA merged with other anti-Amin groups in Tanzania and formed the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA), who together with Tanzanian armed forces captured Kampala in April 1979 – sending Idi Amin into exile. Saleh was later made a platoon commander of a UNLA unit in Moroto District. Following the bitterly contested December 1980 elections, Museveni declared an armed rebellion against the UNLA and the government of Milton Obote.

Salim Saleh joined his brother's National Resistance Army (NRA) and the guerilla war known as "the bush war", that would last until 1986. In January 1986, Salim Saleh commanded NRA's assault on Kampala, which eventually led to the demise of Tito Okello's regime, with Museveni becoming President. NRA became the national army, with Salim Saleh as a commanding officer, General Elly Tumwine as the Army Commander, and Museveni as the Commander-in-chief.

Saleh proceeded to command an army division against rebel groups that were remnants of the UNLA, including Uganda People's Democratic Army (UPDA), in northern parts of the country. He was instrumental in working out a peace deal with the UPDA.

Saleh succeeded Elly Tumwine as Army Commander in 1987, and held the post until 1989 when, following accusations of corruption, he was sacked from the army by his brother. He later became the senior presidential advisor on defence and security (1996–1998), and the commander of the army's Reserve Force (1990–2001), involved in resettling army veterans of the bush war.

Saleh recalled RPF leaders to Uganda, over the death of the leader of the RPF Fred Rwigyema He arrested Peter Bayingana, who had taken de facto command of the RPF, and Chris Bunyenyezi. Both were executed.

While still in the army, Salim Saleh ventured into private business and philanthropy, setting up a string of businesses ranging from real estate to aviation, and becoming one of Uganda's wealthiest businessmen, but also getting involved in several corruption scandals.

Uganda Commercial Bank
In 1998, Salim Saleh resigned from his post as presidential advisor, following allegations that Greenland Investments, a company in which he was a major stakeholder, had used the Malaysian company, Westmont, to illegally purchase shares in Uganda's largest bank, the now defunct Uganda Commercial Bank (UCB). His brother, President Museveni, later said he'd sacked Salim Saleh, not for his involvement in the scandal, but for "indiscipline and drunkenness" in the army.

Junk helicopters
In 1998, Salim Saleh's company purchased helicopters for the army, for which he received a commission of $800,000. The helicopters turned out to be junk.

Involvement in Congo (DRC)
Salim Saleh was specifically implicated in a UN Security Council report for being involved in the illegal exploitation of natural resources from Congo (DRC) during the Second Congo War . The government of Uganda dismissed the report, and no punitive actions were taken against those involved.

Latest developments

In 2005, Salim Saleh, then a Lieutenant General, was one of the pioneer class to graduate from the Uganda Senior Command and Staff College at Kimaka in Jinja. Following that course, he was promoted to the rank of General in the UPDF. Prior to the 2006 General Elections, Salim Saleh went back to school and obtained an A-level certificate, the minimum requirement to become a member of Parliament of Uganda. Following the elections, he was appointed Minister of State for Microfinance.

The previous Opposition failed because they didn't take Elections any Serious

The previous opposition have consistently failed to lure the citizens of Uganda time and again over the last 3 decades, not because they were weak but because they didn't take elections any serious.

It should be understood that civic education is very much an important aspect of the electoral process, a responsibility that cannot be singularly performed by the civil society organisations, but very much a demanded effort by the political players themselves.

What Hon. Kyagulanyi Sentamu has done is to reawaken the idea of civic duty and education by all mentally able Ugandans in whatever capacity they can, to responsibly execute their civic duties not expecting monetary returns but ensuring their contribution towards rebuilding their nation with an understanding that, this is their fight and everyone's effort is highly required.

Just like Y.K.M convincingly lured many youths into armed battle, Hon. Kyagulanyi Sentamu is luring them into participative politics to bring about change using the law and peaceful means as the stepping stone.
_____________
Your country needs you, and the future of our nation is so much in each and everyone's hands - let's act civically responsible to secure the social, economic, and political stability of our future generations.

WHY DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY OWN THE COUTRY?

WHY DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY OWN THE COUTRY?

A few years ago, Busabala was our quiet neighbourhood where we lived in love and harmony. When the Entebbe express highway was proposed, powerful and well connected individuals in government rushed there and bought off most of the land from the poor inhabitants.

Since then, the story of Busabala has changed. On a weekly basis, I receive calls from the residents of Busabala complaining about the torture and suffering they have to endured under the powerful and mighty. Many have been dispossessed of their land (including myself), others are brutalised daily, and others regularly arrested.
An old friend of mine has spent several months in prison because he was found passing in the land of a minister in Busabala, and charged with trespass!

When this video of Hon. Thomas Tayebwa (MP Ruhinda North) came out, the same people called me and told me that a lot more happens away from the camera. The locals are beaten and molested daily by these people. The man who called me spoke in Luganda, "Honorable tuyambe, bananyini nsi batutigomya. Tetukyeebaka." The words of this man disturbed me so much.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she’d make ‘essentially the same decisions’ if presented with the circumstances of the 2015 migrant crisis again

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she’d make ‘essentially the same decisions’ if presented with the circumstances of the 2015 migrant crisis again.

‘When people are standing at the German-Austrian border or the Hungarian-Austrian border, they have to be treated like human beings,’ she told journalists.

Merkel’s handling of the crisis was a critical point in her tenure as chancellor. Nearly a million refugees applied for asylum in Germany between 2015 and 2016.

Initially, Merkel’s open-borders immigration policy was widely supported by the German people. However, there has been increased criticism following highly publicized criminal incidents involving migrants, including the 2016 Berlin Christmas market attack, which killed 12.

REMARKS AT THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF PEOPLE POWER/NUP FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

REMARKS AT THE LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF PEOPLE POWER/NUP FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Aisha Kabanda | August 25, 2020

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for coming.

Today, we are here to launch our fundraising campaign. This is in line with the Political Party and Organizations Act and the Presidential Elections Act. As you are aware, the Chief Fundraiser of any campaign is the candidate.

On Friday 22/08/2020 our colleague, friend, brother or fada as you may call him, whom I call Mr. President Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert gracefully accepted to carry the NUP presidential flag for and on behalf of the many Ugandans aspiring for change. Thus, he is the Chief fundraiser for this election. I will therefore, at an opportune time invite him to officially launch our fundraising campaign. But before then allow me to make the following remarks.

This struggle for change is not a single man’s business but for all that desire change. We are endowed with unique abilities and qualities therefore we can play different roles but all geared at fostering change of national leadership. Some people are good spokespersons just like comrade Joel Senyonyi; others are good activists just like my brother Segirinya, others are good organizers just like comrade Kidandala; while others can sacrifice their whole in other terms known as kuyiwawo mubiri.

We are also endowed with different resources; some have the stamina to confront our opponents in any way and have the time to do such a good job they have done, while other are endowed with logistical and financial resources but do not have either the stamina time or liberty as some are employed in sensitive public and private positions that demand to be seen as apolitical. A synergy of these advantages is which we look forward to fostering.

We therefore make this call to all brothers and sisters that are not able to physically participate with us as we push for change to contribute by raising funds to facilitate the struggle. No amount of money is too little for us therefore any amount of money counts. You may also contribute in kind for example in form of services, T-shirts, fuel, vehicles, motorcycles, to mention but a few.

Friends, the young men and women that traverse this country sensitizing the communities and popularizing our symbol that is the Umbrella, need airtime, data, transport, accommodation food and water. The many that are arrested need to be bailed out at exorbitant fees designed by the State just to weaken us. Thanks to the lawyers that have offered pro bono (free) service but also need fuel to reach the courts and other basic costs.

Many of our colleagues have been injured by state operatives, some in accidents and have to be treated. Others have not been lucky to survive the wrath of the dictator or fate, but the livelihood of their families must continue. There are enormous challenges that the foot soldiers go through but they are determined to carry on until we wear the victor’s crown. We pray that the rest of us who cannot play the role that they play facilitate the struggle by providing logistics. This campaign is a visual campaign we therefore need a lot of branding; poster, billboards, banners, T-shirts, caps, airspace on radios, televisions and internet to mention but a few. This campaign needs a lot fuel to be able to reach people in their respective villages. In short, this so-called scientific campaign needs a lot of money.

To illustrate;

Uganda has 68,733 villages, and assuming that we have only 5 foot soldiers in every village, working only 4 days a week in the remaining 22 weeks to elections, giving each one them 20,000/ to cater for all the expenses they would encounter including up keep for their homes while on duty, this would be equivalent to: 604,850,400,000 yet it is only one activity. This is meant to encourage us to do more. The people we are competing with spend from our national coffers spending tax payers money and misappropriation of debts taken on our behalf for our children and grandchildren to pay in future. While they desire to renew their tenure to make another loot of our hard-earned money, we must spend everything that is left to us to salvage our country from heartless people and build a foundation for a better future.

Our strength and hope is in our numbers and that is why we say; People Power is Our Power. Raising the money we need to defeat the junta is not rocket science but just commitment from each one of us. There are 17,782,594 registered voters. We already told you we are going to defeat President Museveni by 80%. Using a conservative approach, we estimate that 30% of the voters will not respond to our fundraising probably because they do not support us or are simply too poor to contribute anything. This will leave us with approximately 12.5m who will respond to our fundraising.

We assume that;
1m will contribute at least 500,000
1m will contribute at least 300,000
3m people will contribute at least 100,000
7.5m people will contribute at least 10,000

This will lead to a collection of at least Shs.1.175trillion. This is only local contribution. Putting into consideration of other forms of fundraising we are hopeful that we shall be able to raise the funds that need to push us to success.

This will lead to a collection of at least Shs.1.175trillion. This is only local contribution. Putting into consideration of other forms of fundraising we are hopeful that we shall be able to raise the funds that need to push us to success.

I am therefore here to inform Ugandans that an uphill task can be made easy if we all individually play a part that we can. Together we can send the dictatorship packing, decisively. And wear the victor’s crown.

I make one promise. Every penny you contribute will be put to the use it was meant for.

We shall be transparent, rigorous in accounting, frugal in spending but considerate in the welfare of our party, task force and movement workers at all levels.

Thank you once again for accepting our invitation to this event. You don’t know how important this means to us.

UGANDA’s STATE SPONSORED MEDIA BIAS

UGANDA’s STATE SPONSORED MEDIA BIAS

When the scientific election road map was announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Commision Justice Simon Byabakama, it was met with skepticism and resistance from the opposition because it’s common knowledge that President Museveni and the NRM administration have a firm grip on the Ugandan media.

It’s therefore not surprising that in the months following this announcement, NRM coverage has dominated Uganda’s media houses while opposition leaders like Hon. Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi is currently in court seeking justice after being denied access to speaking on a radio station.

The media bias is so blatant that Ugandans recently witnessed the NRM CEC internal elections aired live on numerous media outlets including a Speech by President Museveni to NRM delegates broadcast to the whole nation.

Uganda ranks 125th out of 180 in the 2020 World Press Freedom Index. That metric is a reflection of the degree of media freedom, safety, independence and the liberty journalists have to do their job without fear. This is one of Uganda’s lowest scores since the country was ranked 139th in 2012.

In Uganda like many autocracies, control of the media is an essential component of maintaining regime stability. When you control the media, you control the masses. As a result, Museveni operates a semi-free media state by letting journalists operate as long as they broadcast favorable coverage of the regime to the nation.

Control of the media in Uganda is facilitated through the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), the government’s regulatory body that oversees the licensing of the country’s media houses. This body on several occasions flexes its political muscles, shutting down media houses as well as engaging in direct censorship of media content critical of the NRM government.

The government also weaponized Uganda's Communications Act of 2013 with ambiguous laws instructing media houses to refrain from airing content that distorts facts or incites public insecurity or violence. This law is used to shut down, intimidate, conduct threats of firing or arrest of any journalists that host opposition leaders or air programs critical of President Museveni and NRM.
The great equalizer that has changed the world has been social media. This has enabled opposition to broadcast their political events live without the filters of the compromised mainstream media outlets. At the moment it’s the primary option available for the opposition in Uganda to reach voters though it has some limitations regarding the inability to reach a larger audience as well as shaping the national election narrative.
It’s a tragedy for Uganda that our journalists have succumbed to the forces of the regime at a time when the country needs a free, independent and balanced media. When the electoral commission declared that campaigns would exclusively happen on media, NRM party never opposed the roadmap because they knew it was their home field advantage operating under a State controlled media.
